Flame Shark

Flame Shark sounds like Rod Stewart drugging out on psychedelic pineapples, like in a 3D movie from the 50s, I see them through the reds and the blues, and tonight, they resemble chipped brick walls and crumpled newspapers more than a band, not even the rats cross their paths anymore. ~ Mark Steinbuck

Reggie's 3 Year Anniversary Party 9.8.10

We are pleased to announce we've been invited to play Reggie's (2105 S. State St.) 3 Year Anniversary Party on Wednesday September 8. We'll be playing alongside some of our favorite bands including Ha Ha Tonka, Divebar and Treaty of Paris. We're coming off an interesting month here, what with Rusty LaRue getting hitched to our artist-in-residence, Flame Shark album designer Erin "Liljeans" Liljegren. That's right, two superpowers have united to form a mega-power of love. So, we're all excited and ready to take that love energy to the stage. Our first full band show back in Chicago will be this one and it is not to be missed.

In addition to all the excellent bands, all drinks, I mean ALL DRINKS, will be $3. If you're looking to get snockered off vodka martinis, here's your chance. Also, a free buffet, and I can attest to this personally, Reggie's don't serve no slop. Their food is genuine and far, far beyond typical venue fair. So, buy your tickets now and save $3, this show will sell out: reggieslive.com

Brand New T-Shirts Now Available

I feel giddy as a schoolboy! Our new t-shirts have arrived and are now available exclusively through our website and at our shows. The design is by Julia Sonmi Heglund, who has done boatloads of design work for us (including the header at the top of this page). The bird is a mother pelican feeding her baby pelicans, which is also the Louisiana state flag, representing the benevolence of the state toward the people, or the "chicken in every pot and every man a king" philosophy introduced back in 1928 in by that old rascal, Louisiana state governor "The Kingfisher" Huey P. Long. The design represents brighter days ahead for all people and while, my beloved Louisiana may not have achieved such admirable goals, we have!

Our t-shirts do not discriminate and are available to anyone, whether you be Afghani, Punjabi, American or what have you. Take a closer look and order your t-shirts HERE. The foxy Ellen Sparks, a Chicago artist, model and artisan baker was kind enough to sport the shirts for a photo shoot. We have mens tees as well, but so far, we have found no one outside the band willing to model those shirts. Now, go get'um tiger!

New Song From FARM LIFE Now Playing

The new record FARM LIFE is in the can and almost ready to spread its wings and be set free. But before we do that, we want to get some momentum going behind it before we set out on the road. So, we won't be officially releasing it for sale or for your listening pleasure until September 21, 2010. Until that day comes, feel free to have a listen to another track off the record. We've had the Mike "Goldenwings" Meske tune "A Fossil" on the FARM LIFE page for a while and we're gonna keep the Goldenwings theme going with another one of his tunes.

This song is called "Straight Through Your Heart". Mike wrote, sang and produced this one with me (Justin) on bass and backing vocals, Rusty on keys and backing vocals, Doug Gay on drums and Marc Ford on lead guitar. Revel in its glory while it is posted on the site. Keep checking back in too, we're going to be putting new videos from some intimate performances, promo shoots and interviews up very soon.

New Band Photos

We have new band photos courtesy of Chicago-based photographer Wallo VillacortaThe photos were shot around our neighborhood, mostly at our favorite Western store Alcala's. They were cool enough to give us access to the entire store and basically let us run wild, trying on hats (as you can see), wearing their boots and other gags. You can view all the photos on our bio page. We're gearing up for a fall tour supporting the new album FARM LIFE which won't be released until late August 2010. You can still pre-order the album (for a limited time) on the FARM LIFE page. In other news, we're playing the Steel Bridge Songfest in the Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on Friday July 11th. Check the website for our time slot. We'll also be playing at the Memorial Union Terrace in Madison, Wisconsin the next day, Saturday July 12th, opening for the "West Texas Nick Lowe" Colin Gilmore. Don't let all these links overwhelm you, point is, if you wanna come see us, this weekend will be a good one for it if you're in Madison or Sturgeon Bay.
